Austin Fiber Arts has a long tradition of providing transformative educational experiences in the visual arts. We bring together an outstanding faculty of emerging and renowned artists and professional educators from all over the Texas and beyond. Instruction covers a broad spectrum of fiber arts crafts, techniques and media.  A workshop at Austin Fiber Arts can truly be a life-changing experience.

Judy Coates Perez: Painted Imagery – July 2014

Painting Imagery with Textile Paints Instructor: Judy Coates-Perez Date: Friday, March 7, 2014 Time: 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm Location: Holy Cross Lutheran Church4622 S Lamar Blvd Fellowship Hall Austin, TX 78745 Cost: 65.00 per person +supplies Paint offers endless opportunities for creating special effects on fabric, from adding details, dimension or shadow to creating fully illustrated scenes. While working with textile paints, students learn techniques for creating smooth gradations of color, glazing paint to create more visual depth, covering large areas and backgrounds smoothly, avoiding blotchiness, control paint bleeding, how to working with freezer paper masks, and paint smooth lines and fine details. This is an information packed class geared to help students gain confidence painting on fabric for art quilting. Student will bring the following supplies: Pebeo Setacolor transparent paints – list to be provided after registration 1/2 yard white PFD cotton fabric Several small synthetic bristle round tip brushes; sizes 0-3 and flat 1/8” and ¼” wide and a 1” wide flat paint brush
