WORKSHOP — NOVEMBER 13th 9am to 4 pm with lunch break
(Location: CRAFT, 4704 E Cesar Chavez, Austin, TX 78702 http://madeatcraft.com/)
Boro is the Japanese art of mending using layers of fabric and running stitches, often in the traditional form of embroidery known as sashiko. Japanese textile expert Carol Ziogas of Kimonomono and The Ardent Thread is coming to us from California for a relaxing and fun one-day workshop on making your stitched fabric collage using traditional techniques. Boro is very popular for both mending and upcycling and is attracting attention across the world — original pieces from the 19th century are selling for thousands of dollars and also being remade into couture fashion in Tokyo. Come be on the leading edge of the textile trends!
Price is $75 for members, $90 for non-members plus a $15 supply fee payable to the instructor on the day. The deadline to sign up is October 30th — but don’t delay as there is already a great deal of interest, you won’t want to miss out. Scholarships may be available for AFA members who would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial constraints.
